A competitive house system that gives each child a sense of belonging

In 2012 we ran a competition to make the House system more competitive, moving from a two House system to three. Our pupils chose the names of some prestigious local estates as the Houses – Dunham, Lyme and Tatton.

House System

House Merits

We have a reward system that allows our pupils to earn merits for their House. There are various ways that these can be won:

  • Working well in class
  • Submitting an outstanding piece of classwork/homework
  • Playing for a school sports team
  • Supporting school events such as an Open Morning or performing/helping out at our annual school theatre production
  • Winning a House event

House Assembly

Heads of House present a Termly House update Assembly to keep the competition alive! Students are told the results of House events and reminded of their current position in the race for the title of House Champions!

Annual House Prize

The House Champions are announced at our annual Presentation Evening and the winning House is awarded the House Shield. The pupils in the winning House are treated to ‘The House Prize’ which can be anything from a cinema afternoon to a bingo bonanza!
Current House Champions 2016/17 are Lyme! Well done to Ms Allen and team!

House Captains/Vice House Captains

During the summer term of Year 9 pupils are invited to put their name forward as Vice House Captains. Candidates are required to attend a group interview with the Heads of House and give a short presentation about why they should be selected to lead their House in Year 10. They will then progress to House Captain in Year 11.

Dunham House

A note from the Head of Dunham – Mrs Smith

I am proud to be Head of Dunham House and know that I can always rely on my House members to participate in all activities. In recent years Dunham has competed well in all sporting events, we were crowned House Sports Day Champions in 2016 and are ruling champions in the House Tug of War. The overall ‘big prize’ of House Champions is always our aim but Tatton always seem to pip us to the post! Onwards and upwards and keep aiming high, Dunham House – 2017/18 could be our year!

Lyme House

A note from the Head of Lyme – Miss Lucas

Leading Lyme House is a real honour. I am fortunate to have energetic, committed House members who can always be relied upon to represent Lyme House. I am delighted to say we are the reigning House Champions and our victory last year was a true highlight of the school year. Our aim this year is simple: we intend to retain our title and consolidate our position as the “best” House.

Come on Lyme House!

Tatton House

A note from the Head of Tatton – Mr Bradford

Tatton House has a fantastic history of success. As winners of the House Competition in 2015 and 2016, House members showed true grit and great determination. We were very unfortunate to miss out to Lyme in 2017 but have already shown great resolve by winning the House Basketball, Football and Lacrosse events during this academic year. I am very proud to be Head of Tatton and our pupils show great commitment to all competitions. Our competitive spirit will hopefully prove to be successful over the 2017/18 season. Well done Tatton!
