Venue: Scarisbrick Hall, Southport
Date: Wednesday 27th January 2016
Once again, almost 40 Cross Country runners from HHGS competed in the annual Independent Schools North event in Southport.
Competitors from Year 7-11 braved the elements to complete a grueling course which, depending on age and gender, required runners to race a 2,400m – 4,500m circuit.
As always, I was immensely proud of the competitive determination demonstrated by the Hulme Hallers. The weather was typical Cross Country fayre – cold, wet, windy and muddy. My top tip for the event was for our team members to bring an essential item to the race – gaffer tape! Needed to get through the quagmire course and keep both running shoes on. Despite this preparation, 3 of our intrepid runners crossed the line with shoes in hand – proving what grit and persistence we have to succeed at Hulme Hall!
Success indeed was the order of the day with no less than 9 of our team qualifying to represent the North squad at the ISA National Finals next month.
Top ten placed competitors were:
U16 Boys Rocco Zaman – Browne – 1st
U16 Boys Dominic Parkman – 8th
U16 Girls Ella Meeks – 8th
U19 Boys Jordan Anderson 4th
U19 Boys William Furness 10th
U19 Girls Eva Mellor – 6th
U19 Girls Phoebe Tiernan – 7th
U19 Girls Lauren Marsh – 8th
U19 Girls Emmie Ince – 9th
Massive congratulations to the qualifiers and best of luck for the finals which take place at Princethorpe College, Rugby, on Saturday 27th February 2016.
Finally a huge “WELL DONE!” to all our runners. It is an honour to be selected to represent your School at sport and you were fantastic ambassadors for Hulme Hall.
