Further details on School Uniform…
- Skirt and trousers must not be altered ie. taken in at the seams or otherwise changed in style so that they cease to qualify as "uniform". Skirts must be of an acceptable length.
- Shirts and blouses must be regulation style. If latitude were to be given, some highly unsuitable styles would be worn.
- The blazer must always be worn on journeys to and from school. In very cold weather, the coat may be worn over the blazer - not as an alternative to it.
- Socks/tights - one pair only to be worn
Boys - regulation dark grey
Girls - plain or opaque black tights or white socks.
Flesh coloured tights may be worn in Year 10 and 11.
Socks are not to be worn over the top of tights. - Shoes must be plain black, flat heeled and of suitable style (eg. no fashion heels) of suitable material (eg. not suede).
- NB. Boots and trainers cannot take the place of school shoes.
- Aprons – in the senior division. A regulation apron is required for Home Economics. For Design Technology the requirements are a regulation apron and substantial footwear.
- Laboratory Coat – in the senior division. Compulsory for Science.
- Scarves – Hulme Hall Grammar School scarf.
- Gloves -plain and dark
- Cosmetics (including nail varnish) are not allowed
- Jewellery is not to be worn.
NB. Girls with pierced ears may wear one pair of gold studs only. Sleepers are not allowed for the purely practical reason that teachers - especially PE specialists - know from experience that they frequently lead to accidents. Studs must be removed for swimming.
Hair must be kept neat and of a suitable style. Extreme hair styles, eg. shaven heads, are not permitted. The excessive use of hair gel to create extreme hairstyles is not permitted. Girls with long hair must have it tied back off the face. Boys' hair should be clear of the collar and older boys must ensure that they are clean shaven. Hair may be artificially highlighted, but the colour must be in harmony with the hair’s natural tone and be subtle in nature. Total, artificial colouring of hair is not permitted nor is the use of non-natural colours. The Headmaster is the final arbiter regarding whether a hairstyle meets school regulations. Pupils and parents should consult the school before changing a hair style/colour. Those pupils in breach of hair regulations will be sent home or requested to change the colour within 24 hours.
Girls’ Hair Regulations
- Hair must be off the face.
- The aim of the school rule is to ensure that hair is smart, neat and safe.
- Hair bands are to be a plain, dark, colour ie. black or maroon, in keeping with school uniform.
- Scrunchies, if worn, are to be a plain, dark, colour ie. black or maroon.
- Plain clips may be worn to hold back hair from the face to supplement a band or scrunchie.
- Hair must be arranged so that it is off the face ie. so that it does not fall forward over work or hang in front of eyes. Any other hair ornaments are unnecessary and should not be worn.
- For DT, Games, Home Economics and Science, hair must be completely tied back in a pony tail or plaits to ensure that pupils’ safety.
General Conclusion
All belongings must be clearly marked (name tapes are available through Monkhouses).
In addition to complying with regulations, pupils are required to keep clothes and shoes clean and in good repair. As members of the school community, pupils are expected to look smart at all times.
Failure to co-operate leads to demands on staff time which could be used far more profitably. When non-compliance persists, there is a threat to good relationships.
