Merit System

The merit system operates in order to give recognition to pupils on the basis of their attainment, effort and general contribution to the life of the school.

Teaching staff may award merits for the following reasons:

  • Exceptional class work/homework
  • Pupil participation in extracurricular activities
  • Pupils volunteering help which is beyond normal expectations
  • Outstanding effort with class work or homework
  • Good progress in school work

Awards

10 Merits Bronze Award To be awarded in Year Assembly by an Assistant Head
25 Merits Silver Award To be awarded in Year Assembly by an Assistant Head
50 Merits Gold Award To be awarded in School Assembly by the Headmaster
100 Merits Platinum Award To be awarded at Presentation Evening by the Headmaster

Receiving Awards

Once a pupil has the required number of Merits the appropriate Award is granted by their Year Head for presentation at a date arranged with Senior Staff.

Once the Award has been formally presented, the Year Head will arrange for it to be sent home, with a covering letter.

In addition to the Certificate, pupils achieving either Gold or Platinum Awards will also receive book/record tokens. Pupils achieving Bronze also receive a lapel badge.

Platinum Awards are normally presented at the school's annual 'Presentation Evening'.
