ICT

Two newly refurbished suites make the Information and Communication Technology Department the place to be at Hulme Hall. Every subject teacher has access to modern facilities for researching, drafting and the presentation of projects and coursework assignments. From Year 7, ICT skills are targeted through dedicated teaching which focuses on the acquisition of competent skills in word processing, the organising, analysis and presentation of data and electronic communication. There is a range of examinations available at GCSE which can be tailored to meet the needs and ability of each pupil. As well as the traditional approaches, others are available such as the CLAIT qualification and alternative routes through after school study.

Modern Foreign Languages

The school develops the pupils' ability to communicate in the international arena. Spanish and French are taught for the first three years. From that point on, these subjects can be selected as GCSE options. Language courses are reinforced with trips to France and Spain where pupils are encouraged to put theory into practice as well as experiencing new and exciting cultures. Theatre companies regularly perform in the school's excellent theatre, activities and opportunities are arranged where active speaking and listening can take place.

"Pupils listen attentively and are generally articulate."

Geography & History

Both of these subjects continue to be popular at the school. History studies help pupils' acquire sound knowledge and understanding of the past; by using historical sources critically in their context, young Historians are able to draw conclusions and to consider how the past can be represented and interpreted. Geography aims to further pupils' perceptions of their surroundings and extend their understanding of the world they live in. Throughout the course they will be given the skills to make informed judgments about political, environmental and economic issues that have a geographical dimension.
