Admissions

A caring and nurturing environment

Admissions

We understand how important it is to make the right decision in choosing a school for your child and we therefore aim to make the process as simple and enjoyable as possible.
Throughout the year, we hope to be able to host a number of open events and taster days designed to give you a flavour of Hulme Hall. We would also like to invite you into school for a personal tour with the Headmaster, Mr Grierson, or a member of our Senior Leadership Team.

You can apply for a place at school by emailing the Admissions Manager or filling out the form below.

Entrance Assessment

Every child who applies to Hulme Hall is required to sit a Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4) which gives us a rounded profile highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. Children are tested in four fields – verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial reasoning which allows us to gauge their potential and benchmark their current level.

Please note, this is not an entrance examination and there is no pass or fail. We use the CAT4 to assess mental processes which play a major role in human thought and it provides a comprehensive understanding of the core abilities related to learning.

The Entrance Assessment for Year 7

We think it is important that we get to know the ‘whole’ child and therefore our Entrance Assessment is very different from a standard 11+ examination. We invite all children who have registered to spend a day at Hulme Hall taking part in different subject activities that are designed to be fun whilst giving us the opportunity to see how they interact with their peers.

The formal assessment day for entry in September 2024 takes place in January, however, we are still conducting assessments for children on a case by case basis. If you would still like your child to be assessed for a place please email admissions@hulmehallschool.org to begin the process.

Meeting with the Headmaster

Once your child has attended the Assessment Day, we will contact you to arrange a meeting with the Headmaster. This is part of the assessment process and is a chance for you and your child to meet with him to discuss how Hulme Hall will be able to help your child fulfil their potential. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. Following the meeting, we will be in touch to let you know if your child has been successful in gaining a place at Hulme Hall.

Entry to Other Year Groups

Any parents of pupils wishing to join in Years 7-10 during the academic year, should contact the Admissions Manager to arrange a meeting/tour with the Headmaster.

Following the meeting, children may be asked to attend a number of taster days in school. During this time, they will also sit the CAT4 test. References will also be sought from your child’s current school.

Once the taster days and CAT4 test have been completed, you and your child will be asked to come into school to meet with the Headmaster to receive feedback to discuss the assessment results and taster days. You will also be informed if your child has been successful.

We hope to meet you very soon and look forward to getting to know you and your child.
